About CRENC and IeDEA Study
Clinical Research Education, Networking, and Consultancy (CRENC) is a Cameroon-based research organization dedicated to clinical research excellence through collaboration and innovation. CRENC implements several research projects including the International Epidemiology Database to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) study. Together with [clinical sites], CRENC is implementing a Cancer Registry to collect, manage, and analyze cancer data, improving cancer care and supporting evidence-based public health decisions in Cameroon.
Purpose of job
The Cancer Registrar will be responsible for collecting, abstracting, and managing clinical data on cancer patients at [clinical sites]. This position offers an opportunity for professional development in clinical data management and cancer registration, contributing to CRENC’s mission of improving health outcomes through quality data collection. The Cancer Registrar will work closely with medical staff of cancer centers to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data, which will serve as the foundation for cancer control efforts in Cameroon. Additionally, the data collected will play a crucial role in enhancing the understanding of cancer patterns in Cameroon, informing future strategies for cancer prevention, treatment, and public health interventions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Register cancer patients and manage their data according to established protocols.
- Collect and abstract clinical data from patient records into the cancer registry.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and adherence to international coding standards such as ICD-O.
- Collaborate with medical staff to maintain comprehensive patient records and support data management activities.
- Submit weekly activity reports to the Cancer Registry Coordinator.
- Participate in cancer registry and data management training programs.
- Assist in preparing reports and presentations for research and clinical meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all patient data.
Competencies
- Communication: Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with medical staff and ensure data clarity.
- Teamwork: Works collaboratively with medical and research teams to achieve registry objectives and ensure data quality.
- Planning and Organizing: Effectively manages time, sets priorities, and adjusts tasks to meet deadlines while ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
Education
- Required: State Registered Nurse (SRN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Desirable: Training in cancer data collection or experience in clinical data management is an advantage.
Work Experience
- Previous experience in a clinical setting is required, with preference given to oncology or data management experience.
- Experience in data entry, record keeping, or working with registries is advantageous.
Languages
- Fluency in both oral and written French is mandatory. Proficiency in English is an advantage.
Assessment
- The selection process will involve a review of CVs and motivation letters. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a competency-based interview.
