Marcel Yotebieng, MD, MPH, PhD

Professor Marcel Yotebieng started his professional carrier as a physician (General Practitioner) in an HIV care and treatment center in Cameroon. He has a broad background in Public Health, with specific training and expertise in epidemiology and implementation science research.  Over the past two decades, he has worked across multiple countries in Sub-Saharan Africa as clinician, public health practitioner, and researcher.

He has also served as Principal Investigator on multiple grants funded by the National Institute of Health, the Gates foundation, and the World Health Organization. These funding have allowed him and his collaborators to build strong research infrastructures in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC: a centrally located office with >30 full-time staff, cars, freezers, etc…), in other central Africa countries of Burundi, Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, and Rwanda and more recently in Kenya (East Africa).

He does serve on a number of international collaborations and committees including at The US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Prof Yotebieng is also on the editorial board of PLOS One. As the lead for the pediatric work for the Central Africa International Epidemiologic Database to Evaluate AIDS, He has been a key member of the Collaborative Initiative for Pediatric HIV Education and Research (CIPHER) Cohort Collaboration since its inception.
